A roof designed to work with the building

New build roofing starts on the drawing, not when the coverings arrive. We review the roof pitch, intended use, appearance and chosen system, then consider how each layer connects to the structure. The build needs a suitable deck or supporting frame, with underlay, battens, insulation interfaces and ventilation arranged correctly. We also plan around drainage, roof windows, chimneys and penetrations. By dealing with these junctions before covering the roof, we reduce awkward changes and help the finished installation shed water as intended.

Renovation work respects what remains

Renovation roofing brings a different set of questions. Existing timbers, retained coverings and old junctions can affect the new specification, so we inspect what can stay and what needs replacement. Slate, tile and flat-roof systems each suit different pitches, loads and design aims. We coordinate with builders and other trades so openings and abutments are prepared at the right stage. That keeps new and retained materials working together, rather than forcing a standard detail onto an older structure that was built differently.

Frequently asked questions

How early should roofing be planned on a new build?

We recommend discussing it while drawings, coverings and roof details can still be coordinated. This gives time to review pitch, drainage, openings and interfaces before structural preparation or other trades fix the final layout.

Can existing slate or tile be kept during renovation?

Potentially, if the material remains sound and suits the revised roof. We assess its condition, fixings and compatibility with new work. Any retained covering must still meet the setting out and weatherproofing needs of the project.

Who coordinates roof windows and chimney junctions?

We plan the roofing details around windows, chimneys and penetrations, working with the wider project team where needed. Correct preparation and timing help the flashing, underlay and covering meet without weak points.
