We match the flashing detail to the roof window and surrounding covering.

Roof layers reconnected

We integrate underlay, insulation and coverings around the new opening.

Bring useful daylight into the roof space

A Velux roof window can make a loft, upper room or renovation space brighter and easier to ventilate. The window needs the right position and size for the room, but it must also suit the roof pitch, rafter layout and surrounding covering. We assess internal reach, opening style and the proposed structural opening before fitting begins. Underlay, insulation and internal finishes also need consideration, as the installation passes through the complete roof build-up rather than just the visible slate or tile surface.

Flashing makes the window part of the roof

The correct flashing kit connects the window frame to the surrounding slate or tile and directs rain around the opening. We prepare the roof, form the opening and install the window in line with the required details. The underlay and covering are then integrated around it, with particular care at the head, sides and sill. Once fitted, we check the external weathering and the way nearby materials sit. This sequence helps avoid the common problem of a good window being let down by poor roof integration.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Velux window be fitted into any pitched roof?

Not automatically. We need to consider roof pitch, rafter spacing, structural changes and the type of covering. The window and flashing kit must suit those conditions, with enough space for safe fitting and weatherproofing.

Will rafters need to be cut for the roof window?

That depends on the selected window size and rafter layout. We assess the opening before installation and identify any structural preparation required. This should be resolved before the roof covering is opened.

Why is the flashing kit so important?

The flashing kit forms the weatherproof transition between the frame and roof covering. A kit suited to the window, pitch and slate or tile helps direct water around the opening instead of beneath it.
