Specialist care from eaves to ridge
Slate knowledge recognised
Our SSQ approved status supports careful selection and installation of slate.
Tiles chosen for the roof
We consider pitch, profile, weight and appearance before setting out the work.
Junctions finished carefully
We protect ridges, valleys and abutments where pitched roofs often fail.
Choose a covering that suits the roof
Slate and tile can both form durable pitched roofs, but they do not behave or look the same. Slate format and grading affect setting out and appearance, while clay and concrete tiles come in profiles with different loading and pitch requirements. We consider the structure, exposure and intended finish before helping define the covering. As SSQ approved slate installers, we bring recognised product knowledge to suitable slate projects. We also repair and replace tiled roofs where local damage or wider deterioration has affected performance.

Correct laps and details keep rain outside
A good covering depends on what happens beneath and between each unit. We set out the roof around the required lap and fixing pattern, with suitable underlay and battens supporting the system. Ridges, valleys, verges and wall junctions receive close attention because wind-driven rain tests these areas first. During renovation, we also consider how replacement material will meet the existing covering. A close visual match matters, but the new section still needs the right fixing and weathering details for the roof.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose slate, clay tiles or concrete tiles?
The choice depends on pitch, structural loading, exposure, appearance and the existing building. We assess those points before discussing a suitable covering, as the lightest or cheapest-looking option may not suit the roof.
Can you match slates or tiles on an existing roof?
We can assess the existing size, profile, colour and condition when planning repair or renovation. A reasonable match may be possible, but we also need the replacement material to suit the roof pitch, lap and fixing method.
Why do valleys and ridges need special attention?
They sit where water is concentrated or roof planes meet. Poor setting out, failed mortar, damaged lead or loose units can let rain below the covering. We check these details as part of the wider roof system.
